Dashboard Results Highlight Strong Progress for Multilingual Learners Across LP Partner Schools

With the release of the 2025 California Dashboard, Literacy Partners is proud to celebrate the gains made across many of our partner schools. Marvin Elementary and Lake Marie Elementary illustrate the kind of meaningful, sustained movement that becomes possible through long-term, deeply embedded partnership. These results reflect not only strong instructional practices but years of intentional alignment, coaching, and schoolwide collaboration.

Marvin Elementary: Significant Growth for English Learners

Marvin Elementary, an LAUSD Title I school and a long-time Literacy Partners partner, saw significant gains on this year’s Dashboard, with English Learner Progress moving from Orange to Green.

What does this mean for students?
It signals that more multilingual learners are meeting the state’s expected annual language-growth milestones, while fewer students are stagnating or slipping. This shift reflects stronger access to grade-level literacy, faster progress toward reclassification, and daily instruction that is truly meeting students’ needs.

Over the past four years, LP and Marvin have built aligned literacy systems, clearer language routines, and consistent progress monitoring specifically in writing instruction. This Dashboard movement shows those systems taking hold. Multilingual learners are experiencing stronger, more intentional instruction, and it’s showing up directly in their outcomes.

“Our collaboration with Literacy Partners has deepened our instructional content knowledge and alignment across our school. Their development has been intentional and well aligned to our areas of greatest need and as a result, we have increased student proficiency in literacy substantially.” – Liz Bañuelos, Principal Marvin Elementary School

Lake Marie Elementary: Strong Writing Instruction Driving Schoolwide Literacy Gains

Lake Marie Elementary, a Title I school in South Whittier, has partnered with Literacy Partners to implement a cohesive, schoolwide Writer’s Workshop model. This work has centered on building predictable structures for writing time, aligning expectations across classrooms, and ensuring multilingual learners and developing writers have the scaffolds they need to engage meaningfully with grade-level tasks.

What is the impact on instruction?

The schoolwide implementation has led to clearer instructional routines and more intentional use of high-leverage practices. Teachers model excellent writing through mentor texts, provide feedback during conferring, and differentiate supports for writers at varying levels of proficiency. Emerging writers receive explicit scaffolds and guided practice, while more advanced writers are pushed toward greater independence and sophistication. These shifts have deepened students’ comprehension, strengthened their expressive language, and contributed to Lake Marie’s movement from Orange to Green in English Learner Progress—a staggering 22% increase in English Language Arts proficiency on the CAASPP.

“Through our partnership with Literacy Partners, South Whittier has seen stronger principal development and staff collaboration, resulting in a deeper understanding of data and its use to create meaningful gains for students. This work has also led to intentional growth and consistent monitoring of how we use data to drive informed decisions and improved outcomes across our schools. We are excited to continue our journey.” – Dr. Rebecca Rodriguez, Associate Superintendent, Educational Services, South Whittier School District
