Our packages begin at 10 days. Here’s a sample of what packages include.

We’ll work with you to customize a plan based on your school’s unique situation, vision, and goals.

We want to create a world with classrooms full of cozy nooks, beanbag chairs, gathering areas, and colorful bulletin boards filled with a unique collage of student work.

You too? Here’s how we can work together.

INSTITUTE DAYS
A great opportunity to give your staff a crash course training in reading or writing. Your staff will learn the philosophy of workshop teaching. Teachers will put themselves in their students’ shoes and learn by doing, workshop-style, in person or in a virtual adult reading or writing workshop. They’ll be able to put what they learn into practice right away!
LABSITE DAYS
One model classroom is chosen for each grade level involved. Teachers visit this “labsite classroom” to watch demonstrations and then practice their teaching with their consultant’s support. Generally, the labsite is between 45 minutes and 1 hour, and the debriefing/planning session is between 30 and 45 minutes. Before the session, our staff developers set up the teachers for what they’ll watch or work on. If we’re working virtually, we’ll demonstrate lessons and have teachers practice over video. Afterward, teachers have time to debrief and ask questions.
PLANNING DAYS
In person, or virtually, teachers will spend 60 – 90 minutes working with the consultant to make a plan. Plans could include: a scope and sequence for the school year, an upcoming unit of study for reading and/or writing, or a plan for any component of balanced literacy across a unit of study or across the year.

During planning, we love to study student work or data with teachers to reflect on where kids are and where we want them to be. The teachers meet with their consultant in grade-level teams and design these units using Common Core State Standards and their unit of study kits. During this time, teachers set goals for their units, plan teaching points, develop charts, gather resources, and plan celebrations.

1:1 COACHING DAYS
On a predetermined schedule, your consultant will visit with each classroom teacher during their workshop time. If virtual, we’ll watch their pre-recorded lessons together or observe them live and offer constructive feedback. We’ll support teachers in any area where they want to improve. Individualized attention and feedback helps teachers receive the specific support they need to meet their professional goals.
ADMINISTRATIVE PD DAYS
During these days, your consultant will conduct learning walks/instructional rounds with administrators and literacy coaches, giving teachers helpful feedback in specific areas. By doing this, your consultant can support your leadership team in finding patterns of strength and need. Your consultant may also sit with the administrative team to look at student data: writing folders and/or notebooks or running records and reading levels for each classroom. If we’re meeting virtually on video, we’ll discuss goals, and then create an action plan together. This could include watching videos together, looking at data, and studying teacher’s schedules.
WORKSHOP DAYS
Tailored to your school’s individual needs — you’ll decide on a focus topic for the presentation. Topics range from planning effective mini-lessons that address the Common Core State Standards, conferring with writers and propelling them towards independence, building a curriculum for writing partnerships, a unit of study in reading or writing, and many more.

This can happen in person on a staff PD day, during Bank Time Sessions on shortened school days, or on a Saturday. We can also deliver this virtually to help accommodate busy schedules. This is a great way to develop consistency as a school and create dialogue across grade levels. This is also a wonderful time for teachers to do vertical planning with the consultant’s support. A workshop day can be geared towards one grade level, all the primary grades, all the upper grades, or the entire staff.

PARENT AND SUPPORT STAFF WORKSHOPS
In person or virtual, many schools are excited to include parents or support staff into their PD. We tailor these workshops to fit your parent population or the specific support staff we are presenting to. Attendees will learn about how the workshop approach to teaching reading and writing differs from how they learned. Parents will explore ways to support their young readers and writers at home, while support staff will explore ways to help them virtually and in person at school.

We focus our work with parents and support staff in helping kids to be independent (in reading, writing, and thinking). Some schools choose to have their parent group work with the consultant on developing their own reading and writing skills. We offer them reading and writing workshops (just as we do for teachers and kids). Sometimes support staff will also join in on labsites and planning days with their grade level cohorts.
